The next Bersih megarally finally has a date and venue.
Bersih 2.0 chairman Maria Chin Abdullah told reporters at a press conference that the rally will be held on November 19 at – drum rolls, please! – Dataran Merdeka.
During the press conference, Maria also told The Star Online that the election watchdog group would submit their application to hold the rally to the police soon.
She was responding to Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar’s recent statement which claimed that the group had never asked for the police’s permission to hold their previous rallies.
“We have never not asked for permission. We have never not given notice. It’s just that they have always refused our notice,” she was quoted as saying.
She added that Bersih 2.0 had submitted notices and letters to hold previous four rallies, with the group personally writing to Khalid for the Bersih 4 rally but the letters were directed to the Dang Wangi police station instead.
The group also said that they hope to raise RM500,000 in donations for the Bersih 5 rally as well as other activities such as activism training as well as voter education workshops.
