New tint rule for windscreens and windows from Nov 1

Starting Nov 1 all car windscreens and windows will be subject to a new regulation by the Road Transport Department (JPJ).

The new rule requires visible light transmission (VLT) for the rear windscreen and rear passenger windows to be at 30 per cent from the current 50 per cent.

Bernama quotes JPJ director-general Ismail Ahmad as saying that the VLT for the windscreen and driver’s window remains as 70 per cent and 50 per cent respectively.

The rule applies to all vehicles including imported units, he reportedly said. Those who fail to comply will be fined RM300 and if taken to court and found guilty, they could be fined RM1,000, two weeks’ jail or both.

“The regulations are in line with international standards in many other countries,” Ismail was quoted as saying.
