New KL parking rates to take effect today (Saturday)

After weeks of confusion, the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has finally decided on a new parking fare structure for three zones in the city.

Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said in a statement, cited by Bernama, that a RM1.50 fee will be charged for the first hour of parking and RM2.50 for the second hour, with a maximum cap of two hours.

“For areas outside the city centre with a high-level of activities such as Sentul, Bangsar and Brickfields, the charge for the first and subsequent hours will only be RM1.

“Charges for areas outside the city centre such as Segambut, Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Setiawangsa, Sungai Besi and Bandar Tun Razak for the first and subsequent hours is RM0.80,” Tengku Adnan was quoted as saying.

He added that there would be no parking time limit for both zones.

Tengku Adnan also said that the new parking rates were formulated after taking into account the public’s needs.

“It is DBKL’s intention that when all the plans are implemented, citizens will enjoy a more smooth and efficient traffic flow,” he was further quoted by the news agency as saying.
