A new facility to house abandoned cars as well as stray dogs will be built in Johor Baru soon.
According to a report by The Star Online, the holding centre, expected to cost around RM10mil, is expected to start operations next year.
A 1.6ha plot of land in Taman Impian Emas has reportedly been marked for the construction of a multi-storey car storage facility as well as a shelter for dogs.
“We are planning to construct a multi-storey car storage facility to temporarily store cars abandoned by the roadside or near residential areas. We will also build a temporary dog shelter on the same plot of land to overcome the growing number of stray dogs in the area,” Johor Baru Central Municipal Council president Dr Badrul Hisham Kassim was quoted as saying.
He added that stray dogs would be kept at the shelter only temporarily, before they are put to sleep.
“We are working with a non-governmental organisation to find better ways to tackle the problem. Maybe the dogs will be able to find a new home,” he was quoted further.
Five municipal council officers are expected to man the facility, which may have a 24-hour operation cycle, the report said.
