This new camera looks like an Instagram icon come to life, available for pre-order now

Love taking videos, but can’t be bothered to fiddle with clunky DSLRs, and think those GoPro cameras just look drab? You’re no longer stuck with just your smartphone attached to a monopod. (Seriously, stop doing that. It looks weird.)

Polaroid, well-established as the manufacturer of instant cameras (sorry, Fujifilm) is releasing The Cube, a tiny “life-logging” camera that looks a whole lot like an Instagram icon come to life.

The Cube packs high-quality 1080p wide-angle video recording in a frame that’s only two inches on each side. It also comes with magnetic panels built-in so you can attach the camera to any metallic surface. If you’re on in the market for more rough and tumble activities, there are also optional mounts for your bicycle, tripod, and an underwater casing with a suction mount. And don’t worry about breaking this seemingly delicate piece of equipment: Polaroid has rated The Cube as shockproof and water-resistant. So go ahead and “life-log” your trip to the swimming pool in your apartment block.

Best of all, The Cube is relatively cheap: at USD 100, it only clocks in at about RM325, about a third of the price of a GoPro Hero3+, although we assume you won’t be getting quite as many professional-grade features. But that should be fine for most budding videographers on a budget and a taste for fun colours – and hey, did we say The Cube is only 2 inches on each side? You can probably mount it between your teeth.

Polaroid’s The Cube will start shipping at the end of October, and is now available for pre-order on Photojojo; if you choose the USPS 1st Class International shipping package, it’s not going to set you back more than RM400. Get a tiny bit of colour in your video-capturing life and turn a few heads when you walk around Publika shooting your window shopping spree.
