Nearly 80kg of ganja seized by police in Penang raid

Raids on several Penang-area locations yielded nearly 80kg of ganja seized, report local police.

Three syndicate members, and exactly 78.7kg of marijuana were taken in by authorities in operations in the Seberang Prai districts of the state between 12:30am and 5:30am this morning.

Authorities were tipped off after busting a syndicate member with drugs hidden inside his motorbike. Interrogating him, he eventually led them to a house in the area where some of their ganja supply was kept. Two more suspects were arrested at the scene. All three, aged between 31 and 42, will now be in police remand until September 25.

Only in operation for a month, the group distributed marijuana locally, and police say this seizure is not related to the RM7.25 million (US$1.75 million) of drugs found in nearby Perak last week.

Editor’s Note: A previous version erroneously stated police had seized 80,000kg of ganja. This has been amended to 80kg
