Controversial rapper/director Namewee has denied insulting Islam with his new music video, The Star Online reports.
The 33-year-old took to his Facebook page on Tuesday to address the issue.
“Stop your slander and allegations that I insulted Islam. For your information, Namewee is the first Chinese singer in history to have sung a duet together with nasyid singer Yasin Suleiman,” he wrote in a posting.
In the Facebook posting, Namewee also shared the above mentioned music video to the duet, adding that the song was nominated in the Best Lyrics category in the 2016 Anugerah Industri Muzik.
Last week, Namewee uploaded the “Oh My God” music video on YouTube, where he and three other people were seen singing and dancing at several places of worship in Penang, including a mosque.
The music video has reportedly angered Netizens and as a result, several police reports were lodged over the clip.
On Tuesday, Penang Northeast district police chief Assistant Commisioner Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said that the rapper, who is currently abroad, would be arrested as soon as he touches down in Malaysia.
