Name Game: Malaysia’s longest name announced

Malaysia’s longest name was announced today by officials from the National Registration Department, and tallies in at 12 words, with 63 characters between them. Are you ready for it? Probably not, but here it is:

Princess Aura Nurr Emily Amara Auliya Bidadari Nawal El Zendra Mohd Sufian was born last year, and is the current reigning queen (ha!) of appellations.

As local outlet, The Star rightly pointed out, that’s quite the mouthful, and it doesn’t even include a patronymic “Binti.”

NRD director-general Mohammad Razin Abdullah announced the name at an event to celebration National Registration Day 2018.

Mohammad Razin also announced that the country’s three most popular names for boys were Ismail, Ahmad and Abdullah, with over 72,000 Ismails being registered over the last year, nearly 58,000 Ahmads and just under 48,000 Abdullahs.

Most popular girl names included Fatimah (74,605), Zainab (41,450), and Azizah (34,414).

Deputy Home Minister Mohd Azis Jamman was responsible for putting the event on, and the director-general revealed that there was currently only one Mohd Azis Jamman in Malaysia.

Mohd Azis later joked: “I should copyright my name so that it will remain only mine.”

Ha. Hahaha. Hahahahaha. Dad jokes on form, sir.
