Rosmah Mansor, wife to disgraced former premier Najib Abdul Razak and a convicted criminal, will visit Singapore for six weeks after the Court of Appeal on Tuesday (Mar. 21) approved the temporary release of her passport.
Bernama recently reported that she had requested the release of her passport so she could travel to the lion city to visit her daughter and grandchildren, one of whom is apparently unwell.
Following the deputy public prosecutor’s lack of objection to her application, a three-judge panel made the decision.
After being accused of corruption in 2019, the court seized Rosmah’s passport. She was previously granted a temporary return of her passport in 2021 while on trial for corruption in order to visit her pregnant daughter in Singapore.
Rosmah will leave for Singapore on Thursday, the deputy public prosecutor suggested that Rosmah return her passport by May 10. Her attorney also stated that they will return Rosmah’s passport within a week of her return to the country.
Rosmah was sentenced to ten years in prison and fined RM970 million (US$217 million) after being found guilty of corruption in September 2022.
The appeal against her conviction is set to last four days, beginning Jul. 11, according to her lawyer Jagjit Singh, and will stay for six weeks.
She will be staying in Singapore for Hari Raya Puasa before returning to Malaysia on May 5, reported Bernama.
The deputy public prosecutor suggested that Rosmah return her passport by May 10. Her attorney also stated that they will return Rosmah’s passport within a week of her return to the country.
