The government’s socio-cultural advisor says Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir’s decision on Wednesday to relinquish his post as head of Kedah state was “in order”.
Speaking at the Islamic University Malaysia’s Gombak campus today, where the ‘Budi’ programme was launched, Tan Sri Dr Rais Yatim told The Malay Online that “unless it is challenged by somebody, this will stand.”
Rais also pointed out that the decision to replace Mukhriz with Kedah Umno deputy chairman Datuk Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah was based on the consensus of the majority of the state’s assemblymen, said the report.
Mukhriz, 51, had been mentioned among potential future contenders for prime minister.
But his fortunes have flagged due to his outspoken father’s ongoing campaign to oust Prime Minister Najib Razak over sensational corruption allegations. With a report from AFP
