The Malaysian passport has been ranked eighth in an international travel freedom list this year.
Why is it so good? Because those who hold the Malaysian travel document can access 166 countries visa-free and this puts the passport among the top 10 passports that allow travellers to enter the most number of countries without needing a visa.
The Malaysian Insider reports that the Henley & Partners Visa Restriction Index 2014, which ranks countries based on the number of countries their passport holders are allowed to enter, had placed Malaysia at ninth spot last year.
That’s because last year, the Malaysian passport could access a total of 163 countries without visas. In 2012, Malaysia was ranked 14th with access to 153 countries.
Topping the list, the report said, was Finland, Germany, the United States and Britain which allow its people to travel into 174 countries without a visa requirement.
Singapore came in at 5th spot along with New Zealand and Switzerland that allowed visa-free entry into 170 countries.
Meanwhile, at the bottom of the list, were Afghanistan, Pakistan, Somalia and Iraq ranked the lowest. The report said Afghan passport holders could travel without a visa to only 28 countries.
