The M’sian Karate Federation has found their perfect world champ candidates: local cops

Our local policemen fight crime for a living and soon, they might even fight for a gold medal in karate championships.

The Malaysia Karate Federation has revealed plans to train police personnel as potential karate exponents to compete in national and international-level championships.

It’s president Datuk Seri Muhammad Sabtu Osman told The New Straits Times that the Federation has identified four policemen with world champion potential at the recently concluded 2016 IGP Karate Championship held at the Northern Brigade General Operation Force camp in Ulu Kinta.

“We will assess these candidates further, including on age, height and fitness level. We can polish them (to become karate champions),” Muhammad Sabtu was quoted as saying.

Muhammad Sabtu revealed that the last policeman to represent Malaysia in karate championships was three years ago, but sadly, he was forced to retire due to a foot injury.

Besides the honour of representing the country, he said policemen who take up karate professionally would also acquire an important life skill.

“Aside from competing in championships, mastering a martial art like karate is useful as a form of self-defence for policemen in the line of duty,” he was further quoted as saying.
