MRT concrete span collapse: one body found

The Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) has released a statement saying that one of the three construction workers feared dead in the wake of the concrete span collapse at one of its sites in Kota Damansara has been found dead. 

According to the statement, the body of Mohammad Elahi Hossain, a Bangladeshi national, was found at 2.34am was recovered under the fallen concrete span. His remains were taken to Sungai Buloh Hospital for a post-mortem. 

Two other construction workers, Mohamad Faruk Khan and Mohammad Alauddin Mollik, are still missing and feared dead. The two are also Bangladeshi nationals. 

All work along PAckage V1, under which the scene of the incident operates, has been suspended until further notice. The Package V1 construction phase is being overseen by third-party contractor Syarikat Muhibbah Perniagaan dan Pembinaan Sdn Bhd. 

MRT Corp and its Project Delivery Partner MMC Garuda KVMRT (PDP) Sdn Bhd have commenced investigations to determine the cause of the incident. 

At 8.30pm last night, a span of the MRT guide way dislodged from its piers and fell to the ground, as work was being carried out to construct the parapet for the guide. 

The collapsed concrete span was made of of 14 segmented box girders, measured 38m in length and weighed 490 tonnes.
