MRT: Cheras-Kajang Highway, Batu 11/Balakong route closed at night for 2 weeks

Drivers racing towards the final days of 2015 would do well to avoid heading towards Kajang or Balakong, as a stretch of the Cheras-Kajang Highway and the Pekan Batu 11/Balakong road will be closed for 15 nights to make way for Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) construction.

The closure of the Cheras-Kajang Highway begins tonight, and the route will be closed every night until December 30 from 11pm to 6am.

Bernama quotes a statement from contractor MMC-Gamuda which advises drivers to use the slip road Bukit Dukung/Taman Koperasi Cuepacs and use Jalan Cheras Lama to get to Kajang for the time being.

The Pekan Batu 11/Balakong road will begin to be closed off to traffic tomorrow night until December 31, also for MRT construction. MMC-Gamuda’s statement said the road closure will run from 11pm to 5am daily.

The statement said, during the closure from Dec 16 until Dec 23, motorists from Pekan Batu 11/Balakong heading towards KL/Cheras will be directed to turn right into Cheras-Kajang Highway (Kajang bound) and make a U-Turn at the flyover at the Sungai Long interchange.

However, starting from Dec 24 until Dec 31, both the right-most lanes near the traffic light junction of Pekan Batu 11/Balakong (Kajang and Balakong bound) will be closed for motorists with one lane being made available for each direction.

The company added, there would be a road closure in front of Pekan Batu 11 MRT Station at KM 15.5 until KM 17, Cheras-Kajang Highway on Dec 18 until Dec 31 from 12 midnight until 5 am, intermittently.

Got that? Actually, to be completely sure you don’t get caught in traffic hell, just avoid Kajang and Balakong until 2016.
