It took 18 years, but some one has finally done it.
National sprinter Khairul Hafiz Jantan is now officially Malaysia’s fastest man after he broke former national athlete Watson Nyambek’s 100 meter record.
According to a report by The New Straits Times‘ Jugjet Singh, the 18-year-old posted a time of 10.18 seconds on his way to winning the 100m gold medal at the ongoing Malaysia Games (Sukma) in Sarawak on Wednesday.
He won the sprint ahead of Sarawak’s Jonathan Nyepa and Malacca’s Badrul Hisyam Manap.
His time shattered Nyambek’s 18-year-old record of 10.30 seconds, which he set on July 15, 1998 – a week beofre Khairul was born.
“I never expected to break the national record as my intention was only to beat Badrul to the gold medal.
“He was actually the one who pushed me to break the national record,” he was quoted by the daily as saying.
