12-year-old boy riding a motorcycle killed in collision with taxi

A 12-year-old boy was killed when a taxi crashed into the motorcycle he was riding on, according to a report by The New Straits Times.

Kluang district police chief assistant commisioner Mohamad Laham told the daily that the incident happened at around 9.30pm on Wednesday when the underage rider, Muhammad Wafie Samsuddin, was travelling along KM73 Jalan Johor Baru-Ayer Hitam.

A taxi, which was travelling in the opposite direction, reportedly veered into the motorcycle lane and crashed head on with the bike.

Muhammad Wafie suffered severe head injuries and died on the spot, Mohamad Laham told the NST.

“The area was not well-lit. At the time of the incident the victim was riding alone and was heading toward Machap,” he was quoted as saying, adding that the boy’s body was sent to Hospital Enche’ Besar Hajjah Khalsom for a post mortem.

The 72-year-old taxi driver was reportedly unhurt in the accident and will be investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1957 for causing death by reckless driving.
