Mother found guilty of prostituting her young daughters to foreign workers pleads guilty, asking only for a fine

In a story that has most of Malaysia speechless, horrified, and unable to read on, a mother was sentenced to 150 years in prison (which worked out to 75 years after the judged decreed that the sentences be served concurrently) for prostituting her two daughters, aged 10 and 13.

Giving them pocket money ranging from RM1 (US$0.24) to RM20 (US$5), she forced the two to have sex with different Bangladeshi men on several occasions in a seedy hotel room. She would charge the men RM50 (US$12) per session.

If you thought that it could not get more horrifying, today we learned that the mother watched as the depraved acts of sexual assault occurred.

The Star has taken to naming her sensationally “Monster Mum,” and the headlines have covered every national newspaper this morning after the sentence was read yesterday.

Shockingly, the mother did not seem to understand the genuine level of degeneration of her actions: while pleading guilty to all of the charges, she asked the judge to issue only a fine. She explained that she still had two children under 5 years old at home, apparently not understanding that it was highly unlikely she would be mothering either of them again.

The children were only rescued after the 13-year-old was able to send her teacher a WhatsApp message alerting her to the abuses that she was enduring at the hands of her mother. She furtively used her mother’s phone to send a message saying she had been sold to foreign men.

The teacher alerted authorities, and the police were called in.

The guilty woman cannot be named in a bid to protect the identity of her children. Reporters present at sentencing described the woman as showing “no remorse.”

She had previously been living with the two victim daughters, products of her fourth and fifth marriages, in a room that was part of a two-floor commercial building.

The girls have since been sent to Hospital Sultanah Aminah for examination. Medical reports confirmed that there was evidence of tearing in their vaginal areas.

They are now in the care of the Johor state Welfare Department.
