A 30-year-old woman in Sarawak is under arrest, accused of pimping out her 14-year-old daughter in order to pay off her debts.
The Star have identified the woman as being from a kampung (rural area) near Lawas town, in the north region of the state. She was arrested at 2:15pm yesterday, after the village headman brought the girl in to a nearby police station himself to file a report.
He told officers that he girl had been forced by her mother to have sex with a man, and that the mother had been working in cahoots with a karaoke bar owner to pawn off her daughter in order to pay off debts.
According to police, the girl was raped three times by a man at a hotel. He is purported to have paid the karaoke bar owner RM1,000 (US$235) for the girl.
The karaoke bar owner was arrested herself at 3:00pm yesterday. Police are now looking for the man who is alleged to have paid for the under-aged, trafficked girl.
The case is being treated as rape.
