A mother, her 15-year-old son, and a mosque muezzin (the man who sings the call to prayer) were all rounded up in an anti-drugs operation near Ipoh yesterday. All tested positive for methamphetamine.
The mother’s house was raided at 9:15am, after police received a tip-off (the father? kepoh neighbor?).
Both she and her son were asked to do urine tests on the spot. They were reportedly “shocked” to find that the results were positive. The mother told officers that she took the drug to lose weight. I guess that’s one way. So is healthy eating and reasonable exercise, but no matter, on to the meth.
The Star reports that a local muezzin was also taken in during the Ipoh area-wide sweep, code named Ops Perdana. He is a 52-year-old former drug addict, and current kidney patient. He had first tried to pass himself off as law enforcement personnel, so as to avoid arrest, but the jig was up when no one recognized him from the office. He later tested positive for syabu.
In total Ops Perdana arrested 39 individuals over a 13-hour window of time. Three of those arrested were women. All but one tested positive for meth. Eighteen tested positive for morphine, and three for ganja.
Aiyo. Uppers AND downers? Guys, don’t make me call in the ghost of River Phoenix to lecture you about this.
