Mortal Kombat: Man’s epic 40-minute fight with a crocodile

It was Davis vs Goliath death match, but a man from Pasir Puteh, Kelantan managed to escape with his life after a 40-minute battle with a crocodile.

According to a report by Utusan Malaysia, as translated by The Star Online, the incident happened at around 8.30pm on Tuesday when 58-year-old Ibrahim Noor was out catching prawns with his friends in the Gong Ketereh river.

He told the Malay daily that he was removing some rubbish from his fishing net when the croc pounced on him.

“The crocodile bit me and tried to drag me further into the river.

“Although I was in a critical situation, I wrestled with the crocodile and tried to punch and poke its eyes in order to escape.

“This lasted about 40 minutes and I finally escaped from the crocodile’s jaws,” he was quoted by Utusan as saying.

As a result, Ibrahim sustained a nasty 20cm gash on his upper left thigh.

He was reportedly rushed to the Tengku Anis Hospital by his friends where he received stitches to close the wound.

Meanwhile, Kelantan National Parks and Wildlife Conservation Department director Mohammad Khairi Ahmad told The Rakyat Post that a team from the department has been deployed to monitor the area.

“We are advising the people to be more careful and report to the department on any crocodile sighting in the river,” he was quoted as saying.
