Over 4,000 medicines and medical equipment have been exempted from the Goods and Services Tax (GST), with more expected to join the list soon.
Customs Department GST Division director Datuk T. Subromaniam told Bernama that his team was working with the Health Ministry to increase the number of GST-exempt medicines.
“It is hope that the GST exemption will help the private healthcare facilities to reduce the cost of providing their health care services, especially to the low-income people,” he was quoted as saying.
So far, the government has listed 4,214 medicines and 126 types of medical equipment that are free of GST. Check out the full list here.
