Here are new findings that no one will ever dispute, ever, nope: UMNO Youth and an independent body surveyed a number of Malay youth in the country and found that a majority of them leaned towards supporting the Barisan Nasional (BN) in the 13th General Elections last year.
UMNO Youth chief and Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin shared the study’s findings yesterday, saying 55 per cent of young Malay voters cast their ballots for BN last year.
“However, if we look at the overall scope of youth voters, we (BN) are still trailing, especially in garnering support from young Chinese voters who have a higher tendency to support the opposition,” he said.
“Young Malay voters who are already backing BN and young BN supporters who have just registered themselves with the Election Commission (SPR) need to be kept in the fold. But at the same time, we need to reach out to and understand the young voters of other races if we are to retake the constituencies we’ve lost.
“Statistics show almost four million new voters will register with SPR before the 14th General Elections, and these will be the deciding factor behind whic party will emerge victorious.”
Khairy added that the UMNO Youth and Puteri wings nationwide will need to continue conducting outreach programs with the youth, even in constituencies where the majority of voters are of other races.
