A total of 33 climbers, initially feared to have gone missing after they failed to return from an expedition, have been found safe.
According to a report by The Star Online, the climbers ascended Mount Brik in Kampung Tringus, Bau on Saturday and are scheduled to return on Sunday.
When they failed to return, an individual named Royling Ken lodged a police report at the Bau District Police headquarters at around 8.30am on Monday.
State Fire and Rescue Department director Nor Hisham Mohammad told the news portal that the department was notified of the incident at 7.10am and a team of firemen, led by Senior Fire Officer Kadri Bogol, conducted a search and rescue operation to locate the climbers.
Thankfully, three firefighters and villagers who hiked up the mountain bumped into the group, who were reportedly making their way down.
The climbers, comprising 17 women and 13 men, arrived at Kampung Tringus on Monday afternoon, according to Nor Hisham.
“A first group of nine climbers arrived first, followed by a second group who arrived at 3pm.
“It was a wise decision by the climbers not to descend on Sunday due to high water level and strong river current,” he was quoted as saying.
Nor Hisham also told the news portal that no one was seriously injured in the incident.
