More than 1,000 motorists summoned for abusing emergency lane

Some people never listen.

A total of 1,069 motorists have been issued with summons for abusing the emergency lane from Perlis to Selangor, The New Straits Times reports.

Bukit Aman Traffic Enforcement Investigation Department operations chief (central zone) Superintendent Mohd Radi Abd Rahman said the summons were issued as part of Ops Selamat IX, which began on June 29.

However, despite the high number of summons issued, it was a drastic drop compared to previous years, according to Supt Mohd Radi.

“In 2014, more than 6,000 summonses were issued to motorists who misused the emergency lane while last year, the number dropped to 4,000 compounds,” he was quoted as saying, adding that the decrease in number was probably due to increased awareness by drivers.

Earlier this month, the Road Transport Department (JPJ) said motorists caught using the emergency lane will be hauled straight to court.
