Police have arrested a monk and his female companion for allegedly assaulting an Indonesian maid after she refused to marry him, according to a report by Sin Chew Daily.
Recounting the incident which happened last Thursday, the maid said after she rejected his marriage proposal, the 53-year-old Singaporean monk and his companion used their hands and a hammer to attack her, causing injuries to her head and other parts of her body.
The 22-year-old maid, who works for the couple at a temple in Kulai, said she escaped at about midnight when the monk and his female companion were sleeping.
She sought help from a passing police patrol car, and they helped her to file a report and seek treatment at the hospital.
The police then arrested the monk and his female companion in the afternoon, and will be investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for intentionally causing hurt.
According to the Chinese daily, the monk is a rather controversial figure. He reportedly adopted a baby girl, which went against the rule that monks are not allowed to adopt a girl.
