Mom lodges report against teacher for twisting daughter’s ear

A woman in Alor Setar lodged a police report after a female teacher twisted the left ear of her seven-year-old daughter until it blistered.

The mother, 35-year-old Tailor Nadia @ Nazziroh Hamzah, said her daughter complained that her ear was sore after coming home from school on Monday, prompting her to bring her daughter to the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital for treatment.

“She told me the teacher twisted her ear when she failed to follow her in a Bahasa Malaysia spelling session. My daughter is a slow learner. How could the teacher act in such a way,” she told The Star Online at her home.

When she went to the school to complain, the senior assistant for student affairs apologised on the teacher’s behalf and even gave her some money for her daughter’s medication.

“I then called the teacher a few times to hear her explanation but she didn’t pick up my calls,” she said.

Later, the teacher sent her a text message apologising for what had happeend to her daughter, Nadia added.

She said the reason she lodged a police report was not to get the teacher arrested, but to ensure that this incident will never happen again.

Kota Setar district police chief Asst Comm Mohd Rozi Jidin confirmed that the case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt.
