Mirror, mirror: Selangor wedding guests left laughing after inadvertent doppelgänger moment

When asked about how the idea for the premise of Us came into fruition, director Jordan Peele recalled back to a chilling thought he had back whilst catching the train at university: What if he were to encounter his doppelgänger on the opposite platform?

For one Selangor man, meeting his non-biological twin, so to speak, was a lot more amusing than watching Peele’s delightful horror show.

Azly Yozof was at the wedding of a childhood friend in the Kuala Lumpur area when guests in attendance were asked to lineup for photographs.

A friend of his in the queue noticed another man at the wedding who not only bore a striking resemblance to Azly, but who was also wearing a similar shirt, jeans and eyeglasses.

Both men were caught in frame, and as human who cannot tell Robin Thicke and Michael Buble apart, Coconuts KL cannot tell these two gentlemen apart either.

Thirty-year-old Amir Zulfadhli Zulkifly took the video, and says that all of those who caught the moment the two twin men’s eyes met were beside themselves with laughter when they realized how similar the two looked.

“Me and Azly are the groom’s childhood friends and the other man was his friend from work,” he said.

“This was the first time we had ever met and it was really funny. It was just a coincidence that Azly and his doppelgänger were both wearing red shirts.

“They look like twins, but they’re not related in any way,” Amir added.

He then revealed that the two men are now planning to meet up again, maybe take some pictures and you know, figure out who the tethered one is. Jk!
