Millions tune into Papa Pipi’s vaccination promo (Video)

Where medical professionals and duplicitous politicians have failed, can a fictional father-daughter duo succeed in getting shots in arms?

A short promo video by the creators of Papa Pipi and Boboiboy promoting vaccination has made a splash online and has been watched more than two million times in recent days. In the minute-plus clip, Papa Zola decides to get inoculated at a vaccination center to protect the well-being of his daughter Pipi Zola and their whole family, even though he has a fear of needles.

Animation studio Monsta said it was doing its part to promote wider vaccination.

“The Covid-19 virus spreads at every second, so getting vaccinated is important to prevent the spread of the dangerous virus,” said Monsta’s Faiz Zainal Aabidin, adding that the video was intended to speed attainment of herd immunity.

The studio’s characters have become synonymous with family-friendly messages about protecting loved ones.

Grandfather-figure Tok Aba also makes a cameo in the video to chastise Papa Pipi’s fear of needles. The spot also aired on some television channels.

Before the vaccination video, Papa Pipi also appeared in a public service video and song last year, both of which became YouTube phenomena.
