A three-year-old girl narrowly escaped death when her mentally ill father slit her throat with a kitchen knife at their home in Jitra.
According to The Star Online, the girl had just come home with the mother and grandmother when the man took her and locked himself in a room. They then heard the girl scream.
“Moments later, the man opened the door and came out with his daughter. His chest was covered in blood and both collapsed,” Kubang Pasu OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Rahim Abdullah was quoted as saying to The Star.
The man, who had a history of drug abuse and mental illness, might have stabbed himself after slitting the girl’s throat, said Abdul Rahim.
The girl was rushed to the Kangar Hospital by family members. According to the doctors at the hospital, if the wound had been slightly deeper she would have been killed.
Meanwhile, the man was also rushed to the same hospital and is under remand until Saturday.
