In a departure from the Barisan Nasional stand, MCA Youth chief ChongSin Woon said BN component party’s youth wing would take no action against any of its members who wish to participate in this weekend’s #BERSIH4 rally in Kuala Lumpur, Kota Kinabalu, and Kuching, as well as 50 other cities around the world.
Chong, who also serves as Deputy Education Minister, only asked that MCA Youth members and undergraduates observe the laws of the land while demonstrating with Bersih 2.0, in calling for electoral reform and the resignation of Prime Minister Najib Razak.
“What I’d say is please abide by the law, have self-discipline and take care of yourselves,” he said, as quoted by Malaysiakini.
Chong’s statement today earned him the ire of Barisan Nasional Youth deputy chief Khairul Azwan Harun, who expressed his displeasure at the breaking of ranks on his Twitter account:
