Mastermind behind myIMMs sabotage is Malaysian: police

The police on Wednesday identified the mastermind responsible for sabotaging the Malaysian Immigration System (myIMMs).

Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Noor Rashid Ibrahim told The Star Online that the mastermind was a Malaysian who worked for a local syndicate, adding that they have also identified several others involved in the crime, and would proceed to make arrests soon.

“These people are from a local syndicate. They managed to lure one or two Immigration officers initially and the number eventually grew,” he was quoted as saying.

It was also believed that the local syndicate was working together with an international syndicate, Noor Rashid told The Star.

Earlier, The Star reported that the syndicates have allegedly made billions of ringgit by hacking the myIMMs since 2010.

As of Tuesday, the Immigration Department has sacked 15 of its officers for their alleged roles in the sabotage.
