Activist and writer Marina Mahathir did not mince her words when it came to weighing in on Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA)’s plan to allow a Malaysian student — convicted in the United Kingdom of collecting over 30,000 videos and pictures of child pornography — to continue his studies in Malaysia.
Frustrated, along with thousands of other netizens, over Mara’s decision to “support him in any way possible to help him rebuild his character and give him a chance to study in any Mara institution”, Marina took to tweeting her thoughts, taking a jab at the recent fiasco of K-Pop stars hugging Malay girls as well as the strong backlash to the ‘I Want To Touch A Dog’ event last year.
“Every day I feel more and more that our people have lost their moral bearings. Obsessed over dogs n hugs but uncaring over child abuse.”
“Dear MARA, what sort of ‘exemplary student’ has the inclinatn n time 2 download 30k extremely dirty images? #keeppaedophilesawayfromourkids
Describing Nur Fitri Azmeer Noordin, 23 as a “Malaysian math genius”, Mara council member Nazir Hussin Akhtar Hussin had reportedly said that they have agreed to give him a second chance.

“Any individual who repents for a mistake should be given a second chance after being punished especially among gifted students who can become national assets.”
Among the videos found in Nur Fitri’s home were 601 “Category A” articles of child porn, which meant they depicted acts of sexual penetration with underage children. When UK police raided his home, they found Nur Fitri next to a life-sized mannequin of a young boy.
