Chairperson of electoral reform movement Bersih 2.0, Maria Chin Abdullah, was charged in the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court today for failing to give the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) prior notice before holding the recent #BERSIH4 rally on August 29 and 30.
The charge stated that Maria, acting as Bersih 2.0 chair and the rally’s main organiser, was supposed to have given 10 days’ notice to the PDRM before the rally was held.
Maria pleaded not guilty to the charge before presiding judge Mat Ghani Abdullah.
Bernama reports that Mat Ghani set bail at RM5,000 with no surety, and fixed December 11 for the case’s mention.
The #BERSIH4 rally demanded clean and fair elections, and the resignation of Prime Minister Najib Razak over his alleged wrongdoings in connection to the ongoing controversy surrounding sovereign investment fund 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).
