A man caused a major bomb scare after leaving his bag unattended at the Pasar Seni LRT station on Wednesday.
According to a news report by Bernama, the incident forced a temporary closure of the station for about 20 minutes and caused panic amongst LRT passengers.
Rapid KL spokesman Lim Jin Aun said that a middle-aged man chained and padlocked his luggage bag to the platform railing before walking away. The bag was spotted by a station staff, who then alerted the Operational Control Centre (OCC) at Subang Depot.
“Taking no chances on safety, the OCC alerted the police before directing the station to be closed as a bomb disposal squad arrived at the station,” he said.
When the bomb disposal squad and the authorities were about to check the bag, the man arrived at the scene and upon instructions, opened the bag, which was filled with his personal belongings.
The police have confirmed that the man was detained to facilitate investigations.
