Man’s encounter with a ‘hantu pocong’ sets social media abuzz

A brand new day, a brand new paranormal sighting.

One week after Netizens went crazy over an alleged UFO sighting in Kuala Krai, a man from Kota Baru has set social media abuzz with a picture of what appears to be a ‘hantu pocong‘.

According to The Star Online, the man was reportedly driving along a road in Bukit Balah in Jeli at around 3.20am on Monday when he saw a human-like figure wrapped in white cloth lying in the middle of the road.

Startled, the man stepped on his brake and reportedly shouted for help.

Two villagers then reportedly ran over to the man to see what the commotion was about.

While they were doing so, the figure suddenly stood up and it reportedly hopped away into the nearby forest.

Photos of the alleged ‘hantu pocong’ and a copy of a police report lodged by one Mohd Yusuke Yahya have been widely circulated on Facebook:

Meanwhile, Jeli police chief Deputy Supt Yusof Jaafar told Malay daily Berita Harian that the incident did not happen, as the police have yet to receive an official police report from eyewitnesses.

“I advise the public not to believe such a story. We did not receive any report and we will take action against those who try to create public disturbance,” he was quoted by the daily as saying.

An urban legend especially popular in Malaysia and Indonesia, a ‘hantu pocong‘ is said to be the soul of a dead person trapped in its white shroud, or better known as ‘kain kafan’, a type of cloth used in Muslim burials to wrap the body of the dead person.
