Manhunt is on for convicted rapist who escaped from the police

The police have launched a manhunt for a convict who managed to escape when he was about to be taken to the Tawau Prison to serve his sentence on Tuesday.

Tawau district police chief ACP Fadil Marsus told Bernama that the convict, Faizal Iman, was sentenced to 20 years’ jail and 20 strokes of the rotan by the Tawau Court for rape earlier in the day.

When he was being escorted to a police lorry in the Court’s compound, Faizal managed to escape.

ACP Fadil told the news agency that at the time of his escape, the convict was wearing a maroon coloured shirt and short pants with many pockets. 

He added that the police immediately launched an operation to track him down and copies of the his photographs were distributed.
