Man wrongfully shot by policeman at Shah Alam roadblock awarded RM30,000

It might not take away the pain and trauma he received, but at least Shahril Azlan Ahmad Kamil can walk away with RM30,000 for his troubles.

The 30-year old container equipment operator received what justice he could when Shah Alam judge Hanipah Farikullah stated in her judgment today that it was not right for a police officer to have fired rounds from his service pistol at Shahril, when the officer’s life was not in danger.

The Star Online‘s M Mageswari reports that Hanipah awarded Shahril RM30,000 in court costs, with damages to be assessed at a later date.

Shahril’s case stemmed from an incident on April 16, 2009, when he was shot by the police when passing through a roadblock with a friend en route from Section 7 Shah Alam to Rantau Panjang, Klang.
