Man who drove into 15m-deep construction shaft dies

The elderly man who accidentally drove into a 15m-deep construction shaft in Petaling Jaya nearly two weeks ago has passed away, according to The Star Online.

The 86-year-old man, Yong Chee Seng, was admitted to University Malaya Medical Centre after the accident and was discharged a few days later.

However, when contacted by The Star, his family declined to say whether his death was related to the accident.

“We appeal to people to stop speculating whether this is related to the accident,” his youngest son, Yong Hon Cheong, said. “We would be happy if he is remembered as an educationist.”

Two weeks ago, Yong, a former principal of the Methodist Boys’ Secondary School Kuala Lumpur, crashed through some plastic safety barriers before plunging into the shaft. He and a passenger, believed to be his maid, were rescued and sent to the hospital for treatment.
