Man starts petrol fire in urology department of Penang private hospital

Motives have yet to be ascertained in the petrol fire incident at a Penang urology unit of a private hospital.

Yesterday afternoon, The Sun reports that an allegedly mentally unstable individual splashed the unnamed doctor’s office with petrol, and then setting it alight.

Six victims were injured in the attack, including the doctor, and a Taiwanese national. All of those hurt were between 30 to 50 years old.

During the attack, some of the victims were able to restrain the suspect, causing him to suffer burns to his hands during the scuffle.

According to logs by investigators, a call to the Fire and Rescue Department was made at 4:55pm, and fire officials were able to control the blaze within 10 minutes.

Currently, the doctor injured in the attack is in the hospital’s ICU, while the other victims are reported to be in stable condition.
