Man spotted driving on Penang bridge’s motorcycle lane

Two photos showing an MPV cruising on the dedicated motorcycle lane on the Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah Bridge has gone viral on Facebook.

According to The Star Online, the driver of a white Honda Stream reportedly drove more than 20km from Batu Maung on the island to Batu Kawan on the mainland.

Jambatan Kedua Sdn Bhd corporate communications manager Azizi Azizan told the news portal that the incident happened on Saturday at around 7.20pm.

“The driver drove all the way from Batu Maung to the interchange exit, before the Bandar Cassia toll plaza.

“The mainland-bound motorcycle lane is wide enough for cars because it also functions as an emergency lane,” he was quoted as saying.

However, Azizi was not sure if the driver had mistakenly drove into the motorcycle lane, but he did not believe it was a mistake as the toll plaza prevents cars from doing so.

“We have signboards informing road users of the motorcycle lane,” he told The Star Online, adding that a similar incident happened late of last year.
