Man sentenced to 27 years, 78 strokes of the cane for impersonating PMO officer

A 34-year old man has been sentenced to 27 years in prison and 78 strokes of the cane at the Johor Baru magistrate’s court for fraud by way of impersonating a special secretary from the Prime Minister’s Department (PMO). 

The accused, Mohd Ridzuan Alias, pleaded guilty to all 79 charges under Section 419 and 420 of the Penal Code, for impersonation and cheating, respectively. 

The Star Online‘s Yee Xiang Yun reports that due to his impersonation, Ridzuan received a total of RM535,448 from two individuals in return for approval for projects under the Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Ministry, from between December 2013 and February 2015. 

Ridzuan was sentenced by magistrate Mohd Azlan Shah Mohd Alias to serve out his sentence beginning from the date of his arrest on October 20.
