It’s very rare to hear stories of Malaysians assaulting enforcement officers due to their very authoritative behaviour but it’s not entirely impossible. On Sunday, a premise manager resorted to punching an enforcement officer when the Johor Bahru City Council (MBJB) seized items from his shop at Taman Pelangi on Sunday.
South Johor Bahru District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Raub Selamat said in a statement today that the incident happened at 1:50 am involving a 48-year-old local man who was not satisfied with the raid carried out by MBJB.
“As a result of the incident, the victim suffered injuries to his face as a result of being punched, as well as bruises on his left knee.
“Preliminary investigations found that the cause of the incident was because the suspect was not satisfied with the seizure of goods carried out by MBJB as the premise involved did not have an operating license,” he said.
He said, acting on information from the victim, the police successfully arrested the manager at the premises at 1:15 pm on Monday.
Raub added that the case was investigated according to Section 331 of the Penal Code, which provides for a prison sentence of up to three years, a fine, or both.
“The suspect will be requested to be remanded to assist the investigation,” he said.
