Man mauled to death by crocodile while fishing in Sabah

When a man went out to fish by the river, little did he know that it would be the last time he would be doing so.

A man was found dead, believed to have been mauled a crocodile, near a river in Kota Marudu in Sabah, the New Straits Times reports.

Sabah Fire and Rescue public relations officer Mohd Affendy K Ramin told the daily that Herry Long, 28, had reportedly gone to the river at Kampung Langkon Baru to fish on Wednesday when a crocodile reportedly lunged out of the water and dragged Herry into the river.

Mohd Affendy added that the police alerted the Kota Marudu fire station at around 1am and five personnel were dispatched to the scene.

“The rescue team carried out a search operation along the river, but was forced to postpone it due to bad weather and safety reasons,” he was quoted as saying.

The search operation resumed at 2.30am but the victim’s body was nowhere to be found.

The next day, villagers reportedly spotted the body at 9.15am near the Kampung Marudu Darat area, about one kilometer from where he was last seen.

According to Mohd Affendy, bite marks were found on the victim’s body, and the remains have been handed over to the police for further action.
