Man loses wife, daughter in horrific highway accident

A man lost both his wife and his daughter in a horrific accident involving 16 vehicles on Thursday, according to The Star Online.

In the 9.30am incident, Nurul Syazeila Iryani Suhaimi, 28, and her 18-month-old daughter Hanna Humaira Mohd Hasnun died on the spot when the car they were travelling in was sandwiched between two trailers.

Both victims were reportedly pinned to their seats and firemen had to extricate their remains from the badly mangled vehicle.

Her 29-year-old husband, Mohd Hasnun Ramli, was seriously injured and is currently warded at the Kuala Kubu Baru Hospital, according to the news portal.

A Selangor Fire and Rescue Department spokesman told The Star that four trailers, two vans, nine cars and a taxi were involved in the accident which occured at KM406 of the North-South Expressway near Tanjung Malim.

“It was like a scene from a disaster movie, only it was for real.

“Several cars were totally wrecked due to the impact of the collision,” the spokesman was quoted as saying.

According to the report, one of the trailer drivers lost control of his heavy vehicle and smashed into five cars in the middle lane, including the one driven by Mohd Hasnun. 

Another trailer then reportedly crash into the victim’s car on the left lane.

Unable to stop in time, the other vehicles which were trailing behind rammed into each other, causing a major pile-up.

Five drivers were reportedly injured in the accident and they received treatment at the Sungai Buloh Hospital.

Meanwhile, Hulu Selangor OCPD Supt R. Supramaniam told Bernama that police had detained the driver of the trailer for investigation under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
