Man impersonates pilot on Dragonair flight to Malaysia

A man pretended to be a pilot by wearing a fake uniform on a Dragonair flight to Malaysia.

Reporting the incident on flight KA691 to Penang on March 31, the South China Morning Post said the male passenger even had luggage tags and a lanyard that bore the logo of Cathay Pacific, Dragonair’s parent company.

Chairperson of the carrier’s flight attendants association, Rebecca Sy told SCMP that the imposter — said to be between 18 and 20 years old — was dressed in white shirt with shoulder epaulettes, a pair of black pants and a black tie.

In this guise, he told staff that he had just finished manning a flight from San Francisco, before making a request to speak to the pilot after the plane touched down in Penang.

Vigilant crew members, however, knew something was amiss when he ordered a cocktail —a  Bloody Mary — which was not available on the menu.

They then asked him for a staff ID, which he failed to produce, SCMP reports.

Security staff took him away upon arrival in Penang, although it is not known if he has been charged in Malaysian courts.

According to the report, the man is believed to have impersonated pilots before. Dragonair, however, has not released further details.
