Man drowns in PD swimming competition

A middle-aged participant in a swimming competition held at Port Dickson on Sunday drowned too after he began swimming.

The deceased, Hue Li Onn, had swum 1.5km from the starting point at Pantai Bagan Pinang to Pulau Arang when he began experiencing trouble, Sinar Harian reports.

The 50-year-old victim was pronounced dead at the Port Dickson general hospital at 10.45am.

“Between 9.45am and 10am, Hue began to scream for help. The rescue team responded fast and even gave the victim CPR on a boat,” district police chief Supt Adzli Abu Shah was quoted as saying.

It was reported that Hue, one of 95 participants in the 3.5km swim contest, had a history of heart attacks.
