Man in coma after being beaten up over Valentine’s date in Penang

Valentine’s dates can involve plenty of drama and intense emotions, but in Penang, one couple’s date took on a violent turn.

A 26-year-old man  ended up in a coma as a result of being beaten up by five men after he took a woman out on a Valentine’s Day date in Paya Terubong, Penang.

The New Straits Times reports that the man, an Indonesian national, was stabbed at 3.30am on Sunday and suffered serious injuries to his head and body. His attackers were believed to also be Indonesian.

Northeast district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mior Faridalatrash Wahid told the daily the attack was driven by jealousy, after the victim had taken the woman out to an entertainment outlet.

“Police believe the attackers tailed the victim after he sent the woman home. They then ambushed and attacked him. He (the victim) was found by passers-by near the bushes and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.” he was quoted as saying.
