Man charged with killing daughter

The man who allegedly ran amok and slashed his daughter to death and grievously injured two of his other children has been charged with one count of murder and two counts of attempted murder at the Kajang Hospital.

Norazam Mohammad, 43, had the charges read out to him at the hospital where he is warded for head injuries sustained while attempting to escape the scene of the crime. 

The father of six noted that he understood the charges brought against him before magistrate A Jalil Salam.

On the first count, he was charged with the murder of Zulaikha Norazam, 7 at their family home in Section 4, Bandar Baru Bangi at about 4pm on January 30.

The second and third counts charged Norazam with the attempted murder of maryam Norazam, 10, and Liyana Norazam, 12, at the same location.

The charges were brought up by deputy public prosecutor Sri Abirami, while the accused was represented by Nasar Khan. No plea was recorded, and the magistrate set February  25 for mention. 

Norazam was accompanied at his bedside by his wife, Umi Supya Ismail.

On January 30, police found three of the man’s daughters lying in a pool of blood in their home. the 7-year old was already dead, while the other two were unconscious from numerous slash wounds. Two more children had locked themselves in a room inside the house, where they put out a distress call to the police. 

The man was found by police at the side of a river, about 300m from his house. He was found writhing in pain, and with serious head injuries. He apparently suffered the head wounds from his attempts to jump across the river.
