Last week, commuter Aryssa Fahmy sensed that something was awry as she traveled along the Kelana Jaya LRT line. Entering the train from the opposite end to where she was standing by the door, a man made his way down the carriage and stopped to stand directly in front of her. Shortly after, he put his hands inside his pocket and began to touch himself.

Unsure of what she was seeing, Aryssa told herself that perhaps the man was scratching himself. Writing on Facebook that he continued to repeat the same motion from the Kelana Jaya stop all the was to the KL Gateway-University station, she added that while she felt that something was not right, she kept quiet, and convinced herself she wasn’t seeing what she thought she was seeing.

“I had a bad feeling. I did. But I thought he was just scratching and I was afraid to do anything,” she wrote.

Later in the week, Aryssa was shocked to find that the entire incident had been captured on camera by a fellow witness, who called the suspect out for engaging in what appears to be a lewd act in public, stating that the suspect intentionally sought to stand in front of the victim before putting his hand in his pants and making a motion inside.

After the incident went viral, RapidKL, the company that operates the train line, announced that a man had been caught in relation to the incident by their auxiliary police at the KL Gateway-University station, and the suspect is currently in police remand. His photo, along with “dintangkap” (caught) plastered across his eyes, was shared by their social media team to Facebook. No further information has been given at this time over how the arrest took place, nor how the suspect was identified by officers.

RapidKL has urged commuters to stay vigilant, and report any suspected incidents.

Meanwhile, Aryssa has expressed relief that the suspect has been caught, and knowing of his arrest can help her recover from the trauma she has felt since that morning commute.
