A jobless Kuala Lumpur man has been sentenced to seven months prison for viciously beating his wife for not answering his phone calls earlier this year.

Ng Boon Meng was found guilty of punching, choking and kicking his wife, Tan Suh Huai, who works at a travel agency at their home in Taman Pandan Indah at 1:30pm in August 10, 2017. His sentence will be served starting from the day of his arrest, which occurred the following day.

The court detailed that on August 10, Boon Meng arrived home at 1:30pm and was angry with his wife for not having answered a call that he made to her at 8:15am. Suh Huai told him that she had not seen his call, as she was at a coffee shop with friends.

He then flew into a blind rage, punching, slapping, and choking his wife before kicking her in the stomach, all the while asking her repeatedly why she hadn’t picked up his call.

The victim was able to alert her son, who was on the top floor of the house, and the two fled the home, and filed a police report against the accused.

The court heard that Boon Meng often beat his wife whenever the two had a misunderstanding.
